If you've recently purchased a home (or are considering purchasing a home), AND you have CMHC mortgage loan insurance, this rebate could be a game-changer, not only for the environment but also for your wallet. 

What is the CMHC Eco-Improvement Rebate?

The CMHC Eco-Improvement Rebate is a program designed to incentivize homeowners to invest in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly upgrades to their homes. 

 How Does it Work?

When you purchase a home and make eligible eco-friendly renovations or upgrades, you can receive a partial premium refund of 25%, to a maximum of $5,000. These upgrades can include:

  • New energy-efficient windows and doors.
  • Upgrading insulation in walls, attics, and basements.
  • Installing energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
  • Adding solar panels or other renewable energy systems.
  • Upgrading to ENERGY STAR® certified appliances.
  • Implementing water-saving fixtures such as low-flow toilets and faucets.

 How to Qualify?

In order to be eligible for the Eco-Improvement Rebate, you must:

  • Currently have a CMHC-insured mortgage.
  • Spend a minimum of $20,000 on energy-efficient improvements, and have copies of all paid invoices & receipts.
  • Submit your refund request within 2yrs of closing on your mortgage.
