Top 5 Things To Do in November

November 01, 2019

Friends, we can barely contain our excitement!  We have been waiting ALL year for this month’s activities in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, & Parkland County.  You can’t go wrong with Christmas right?  For those of you that aren’t even in the Christmas mode yet, we’ve got you covered here too.

1) Stony Plain Christmas Light Up – November 21st in Stony Plain from 6:30PM – 9:00PM

Main Street in Stony Plain gets transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland, with its annual Christmas Light-Up.  If you haven’t had a chance to attend in years past, you can sip on hot chocolate, take part in Christmas caroling, participate in the Treats and Treasures scavenger hunt, all while you wait for the town’s monstrous Christmas tree and Christmas lights to be turned on.  Get your picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Community Centre after the light up, and make sure to bring a non-perishable food item for the Kinsmen Christmas Hamper Program. Check out the Town of Stony Plain’s website for more information.

2) Christmas in Central Park – November 30th in Spruce Grove from 2-5:30pm

Every year we look forward to this event.  Why?  Central Park transforms into a magical winter wonderland with their annual “light up” ceremony, and trust us, it’s worth getting all bundled up for.  Over 150,000 Christmas lights bring Central Park to life, leaving most in attendance in awe.  There are many family-friendly activities that take place all afternoon, and rumor has it, Santa and Mrs. Claus may even make a special appearance.  We can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday season than with this event.  It’s free to the public, so be sure to bring an unwrapped, unopened gift, or a non-perishable food item for the Kinette’s Club of Spruce Grove. Details can be found on the City of Spruce Grove’s website for more information.

3) The Christmas Store – November 28th – December 4th at the Family Connection Centre in Stony Plain

This is the 14th year that the Family Connection Centre has put on this event, and can we just say that this is pretty darn neat.  Kids aged 4-10 get to go shopping with one of Santa’s elves to buy gifts for two of their favorite adults.  What’s even better is that they’ve thought of everyone.  New this year is their “Saturday Morning Magic”, a dedicated time where kiddos with special needs get to shop in a low sensory environment.  Tickets must be purchased beforehand and prices range from $3.00 to $15.00 depending on whom you’re shopping for.  Check out this link for more information and to purchase tickets to this wonderful event.

4) DIY Christmas Workshops – various dates in November at the Spruce Park Ranch Country Store

Have you ever wanted to make your own Christmas wreath or Grinch tree? nMaybe even a fun Christmas painting or pallet tree?  Now’s your chance!  The Spruce Park Ranch Country Store is offering holiday classes for all of you DIY lovers, so grab a friend and head on over for an evening of fun.  Prices range from $50.00 – $90.00.  Be sure to follow this link to get more info on each class or to reserve your spot for one of their holiday classes.

5) Mac Daddy: The Fleetwood Mac Experience – November 29th and 30th at the Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove

We’re big Fleetwood Mac lovers, and with two cancelled concerts in the past year, this cover band may be the closest thing to Fleetwood Mac that we’ll see.  In our opinion, Mac Daddy truly pays homage to Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits of the 70s and 80s.  With their first show almost selling out, they’ve added a second show on the 29th.  Tickets can be purchased online by following this link.
