Top Ice Cream Spots

August 21, 2019

Summer could not be summer without ice cream, right?!  Here’s our favorite ice cream hot spots in the Tri-Area.

FYI, we are proud to call ourselves “ice cream snobs”, so to all of our ice cream lovers, dairy-free, gluten-free, or pretty much anything-free friends, we’ve got you covered with our top picks 😜.

1) “Daily Scoop”at Beach Corner. This little gem recently opened its doors and has fast become one of the reasons why our waistlines have kept expanding.  With upwards of over 30 ice cream flavors to choose from on any given day, the Daily Scoop has got something to please everyone’s appetite (even for the lactose-free folks).  The owner loves ice cream so much, he has a tattoo of an ice cream cone on his calf!  If that doesn’t scream “I ❤️ ice cream”, we don’t know what will.  Make sure to check out their Facebook page for weekly ice cream flavor updates!

2) “Yellow Submarine” in Wabamun. We have been visiting this local spot for years now and it’s definitely become a tradition of ours to hit up Yellow Submarine after a day on Wabamun Lake.  Heads-up – their serving sizes are MASSIVE!  There’s a lovely area across the street with park benches so you can enjoy your ice cream in the sun, and if it’s rainy outside, don’t worry.  They’ve got you covered with umbrellas and picnic tables so even true “ice cream die-hards” can enjoy every last bite without getting wet.  Take a look at their Facebook page for menu and ice cream flavour updates.

3) “Jack’s Drive-In” in Spruce Grove. This list wouldn’t be a list if we didn’t include Jack’s.  With a true diner flare, Jack’s Drive-In has been a staple in the Spruce Grove community since 1961.  Let us tell you that these guys know ice cream. They’ve got 18 milkshake flavors, oodles of sundae flavors, hard ice cream, and their soft serve ice cream is to DIE FOR!  You can even get your soft serve ice cream dipped in chocolate, coconut, sprinkles or nuts.  If you’re a plain Jane/Joe kinda person, their vanilla soft serve ice cream is the best we’ve ever had.  Check out their website to take a peek at their menu.

4) “Whole Scoop” in Stony Plain. You can’t miss that bright aqua-colored shack on 50thstreet and 44thavenue in Stony Plain.  The Whole Scoop has over 30 flavours of Island Farms hard ice cream and there’s something for everyone here – they even offer dairy-free options!  Head over and relax while enjoying your ice cream on their comfy patio chairs and quaint little patio.  Please note that they only accept cash and are closed when it rains. Your best bet is to check their Facebook page for updates.

There you have it!  Full disclosure: be prepared to drool A LOT when reading their menus!  These local ice cream spots are just a few of the reasons we love to live, work, and play in the Tri-Area.  If you’re thinking about making the move to Spruce Grove or Stony Plain, or experience acreage living in Parkland County, give us a call – we’d love to help!
